Workshop 3: Design and maintenance of Wind Turbines

27/6/2022-1/7/2022

The proper design of a WT has a significant contribution to the reduction of operating and maintenance costs. Well-designed blades, gearboxes, generators, etc. increase the reliability and the life cycle of WTs. On the other hand, quick and less costly repairing techniques are a key issue for WT uptime and success. While scheduled wind turbine maintenance costs are relatively low, unscheduled maintenance costs being out of maintenance/warranty agreements become a real headache for facility owners. For this reason, the optimum design of WT’s components, predictive maintenance, fatigue damage estimation, and repairing, corrosion and lightning protection, continuous monitoring, and non-destructive inspection are top priorities for the engineers working in the already successful industry of WTs.

The present workshop aims to provide an overview of some critical issues dealing with the design and maintenance of WTs. Advanced materials and modeling for wind turbine blades, Non-Destructive Testing, blade inspection and repair, structural health monitoring, corrosion protection, and damage due to hail impact and lightning strikes are some topics that will be presented in this workshop.

The workshop will be a webinar organized by the Engineering School of the University of Patras from 27/6/2022 to 1/7/2022.
